Name: Scott Quillin
Course: EMBA in Energy
Class: Cohort IV
Can you briefly describe your work experience before studying at Price College of Business?
Before studying at the OU Price College of Business, I worked for Devon Energy in Oklahoma City in the land department for six years and in a management capacity for seven years. Prior to Devon Energy, I was a JAG in the U.S. Army for four years.
What influenced your decision to study at Price College of Business?
The description of the program is very attractive. The courses are extremely relevant to the kind of work I was doing, and sought to provide a broader perspective of the energy industry as a whole. The program is geared toward working professionals, and is taught by a good mix of accomplished academics and proven industry leaders. The EMBA in Energy is also a hybrid program, with about a third of the courses taught on-site, and two thirds taught through interactive online instruction, to be completed within 15 months.
Since completing the EMBA in Energy, how has your career progressed?
Throughout the program, I obtained a much more holistic view of the energy industry which was directly applicable to the work I do on a daily basis. I think over time, this positive daily impact on my work will lead to a more successful progression of my career.
What were your favorite aspects of the course?
One of my favorite aspects was the week we spent in London. Studying abroad allows for the introduction of new perspectives that one cannot obtain by studying at home. Another aspect of the course that I enjoyed was the interaction with, and the continuing relationships I made with my fellow classmates.
Is there any advice you would give to new students at Price College of Business?
Immerse yourself and get the most out of the program you chose to study, as well as your instructors and your classmates.
